Hanny
May 18, 2018

Hi! My name is Hanny and I am a Travel & Lifestyle blogger. My blog, The Global Wanderess focuses on providing the best information for those on a budget as well as those who work full-time.

My blog started out as a hobby when I was traveling all the time for work and the more I blogged, the more I realized that I wanted to help others travel and provide as much information as possible.

Since then I’ve been mentioned on a few Top lists and have also made it to the magazines as a photographer.  I’ve also worked with various brands and turned my blog into a business.

How do you stop comparing yourself to other bloggers?
May 25, 7:07PM EDT0

By realizing the potential you have. When we compare ourselves to others, we are allowing our insecurities to speak for us and this will shine through to readers. Instead of comparing, try collaborating with other bloggers, admire who they are and know that it took them a long time to get to where they are. By not comparing yourself, you are also allowing readers to see how great of a blogger you are or will be.

How do you want your blog to evolve in the next years? Where do you see Global Wanderess in the future?
May 25, 2:23PM EDT0

I want my blog to evolve to being a well known source for travelers and bloggers. I want to create a blog that will help people travel better and cheap!

When do you find time to blog with a full time job?
May 25, 11:16AM EDT0

I blog during my lunch hour, but I mostly blog after work. My husband is a huge gamer so there’s times when he will be playing video games and I will be blogging. I try to write as many posts as I can during any spare time so that way I can schedule them.

Have you taken any photography courses?
May 25, 8:13AM EDT0

I haven’t taken any photography courses, but I have watched some tutorials on YouTube and I like to read a lot on how to improve my photos.

What do you think are the best and challenging aspects about being a blogger?
May 21, 8:01PM EDT0

The best aspects are being able to create something that people will enjoy reading and help people. The challenging aspects are getting content out when there is so much to do.

May 21, 8:31PM EDT0
How would you describe your blogging style? Do you think from your or readers perspective?
May 21, 3:17PM EDT0

I believe that my blogging style has changed with time. I used to write about things that was about me, but then I started to think about what the reader would enjoy or how it would benefit the reader. So now I write with the reader in mind and how my content will benefit him or her.

Which part of blogging excites you the most – post writing or photography?
May 21, 5:12AM EDT0

That’s a hard question because I enjoy it all. I love writing, but I also love photography. I do think though that being able to photograph a new place excites me the most.

May 21, 8:34PM EDT0
Which country do you come from/call home keeping in mind you are a travel blogger?
May 21, 1:41AM EDT0

USA. This has been my home and  it is a country I am most familiar with. However, along my travels I felt as though I could move to Germany as my new permanent place, but I think no matter where I am, the U.S will always be my home.

What has been the toughest criticism and best compliment given to you as a blogger?
May 20, 11:06PM EDT0

I don’t think I’ve ever received tough criticism as a blogger, mostly just tips or how to improve. As a blogger, I’ve received compliments on some of my posts and photos.

What are common expenses mistakes travelers do when going on vacation?
May 20, 4:22AM EDT0

Some common mistakes are going during high season and paying a higher fare when there are plenty of discounts out there. Another expense is spending money on tourist traps instead of enjoying the local attractions.

What chain of events almost made you burn down a hotel in Belgium?
May 20, 12:07AM EDT1

It was totally an accident, but the hotel I was staying in had a toaster oven where you would put toast and there was a belt that moved the toast through the oven. Instead of flat bread, I put in a croissant that got stuck in the oven and ultimately caught fire. The oven started to smoke and you can see fire on the table....one of the staff members got an extinguisher in time and the fire did not spread. So I almost burned down a hotel accidentally....

Can you share some tips to save money when booking your lodging?
May 19, 2:57PM EDT0

You will absolutely save money during low travel season. If that’s not something doable, then checking websites like groupon works. I sometimes like to save money by booking a whole package -plane ticket and lodging. Also, if you go to the same brand hotel like Hilton, each one will have a members rewards card that can help you get cheaper rates as well.

If you don’t mind staying at a hostel, that will be your best bet to saving even more money.

What kind of traveler are you? Do you go to all the tourist sites or do you like to mingle with the locals?
May 19, 9:24AM EDT0

When I was younger, I used to go to all the tourist sites. When I became an adult, I started to realize that there was more to travel than visiting places everyone goes to. So I started meeting locals, getting recommendations from locals and tried things that locals would do. Essentially when I travel I want to see the country the way locals do and really get to know the place.

To someone that has not traveled to Europe, which country would you recommend to go first and why?
May 19, 4:07AM EDT0

It depends what you like to do. Do you like to go shopping and fashion? I’d recommend going to Milan, Italy. Do you like architecture? A lot of Europe has amazing buildings, but Budapest, Hungary has some amazing bridges and beautiful buildings. Do you want to go to a city with a bit of humor and waffles? Go to Belgium. It really depends on what you like. If you want the more touristic experience, I would recommend France.

How long did you operate your blog before you were able to monetize it? What methods do you use to monetize Global Wanderess?
May 18, 5:49PM EDT0

Well my blog started 5 years ago, but it started out as a hobby and under a different name.  At the end of 2016, I decided I wanted to turn my blog into a business.

So I started to work on growing my following, post more content and started to be more involved in the blogging community. I also started reaching out to companies to collaborate. Within 5 months I was able to monetize it. I was lucky enough to have found a company that would pay me to post on my blog about destinations I had been to before.

There are several ways I make money with The Global Wanderess - sponsored posts, sponsored social media posts, working on campaigns for different companies, ad sales, and affiliate marketing.

Where are your Top 3 destinations you have been to and why? How about your Top 3 destinations that on your wish list?

May 18, 5:20PM EDT0

My top 3 destinations that I have been to are Greece, Peru and Germany. When I first went to Athens, Greece, I fell in love with the friendliness of people and the culture itself. It was also breath taking to see the Greek Isles from a distance.

Peru is my top destination because of the food and Manchu Picchu! Although I’ve been to plenty of cities in Peru that are really nice as well. As for Germany.... I love the sausages, the Christmas Markets, Oktoberfest, the castles and the cleanliness. I’ve been to various cities in Germany and have liked each one (I liked Frankfurt a little less then the rest though).

my top 3 destinations on my wish list are Tahiti, Morocco and Australia.

What do you think is the most annoying aspect of running a blog site?
May 18, 3:17PM EDT0

The most annoying is when certain codes i put in do not work. Then I spend hours trying to figure what I did wrong and then when I figure it out, it happens to be something really small...

How does Global Wanderess help its readers to prepare for travel?
May 18, 7:58AM EDT0

What are the best plugins to use for SEO purposes and does installing many plugins affect the loading time of the website?
May 18, 6:56AM EDT0

I’ve heard that installing too many plugins can affect the load time of the website, which is why I try not to use many. For SEO,  I use the plugin Wordpress SEO by Yoast. When I took a course in SEO this was a recommended plugin.

May 18, 6:20PM EDT1
How many followers does Global Wanderess have?
May 18, 5:28AM EDT0

Somewhere in the thousands. I haven’t looked at it lately since I’ve been focusing on engagement.
